The National Institute of Technology Nagaland (NIT Nagaland or NITN) is one one of ten newly instituted NITs by the Government of India in 2009. Located at Chumukedima in Dimapur, NIT Nagaland started functioning from 2010. Initially it started with a campus in NIT Silchar in Assam under its mentorship for two years before shifting to its own campus. Set amidst a picturesque background in the hilly terrain at Chumukedima near Dimapur, NIT Nagaland, the first academic session of the Institute in its permanent campus started on 20th September 2012. It has a well laid infrastructure with separate hostels for boys and girls and well equipped state of the art laboratories for separate departments.

The NIT Nagaland offers Ph.D programmes through various departments. Though relatively new, the Institute has taken up challenges to create potential and productive research culture with the introduction of Ph. D. programmes in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. It also organises research conferences and encourages and sponsors members of faculty to enroll as members of scientific & professional societies. In the process of bolstering the research activities, many faculty members have published research papers in leading national and international journals.
